I didn't grow up a huge fan of The Who, (I'm 42 for the record), however many of the bands/artists I am a fan of said they were inspired by them.  I did love the movie, "Quadrophenia".

Last night was an experience of a lifetime.  I Can't Explain, Anyhow Anywhere, Who Are You, We Wont Get Fooled Again, Baba Oreilly, Substitute, My Generation.  The hits went on and on.  A "Tommy" filled encore.  Roger Daltrey pulls power into his vocals just when you think their gone.  Pete Townsend appeared to be slicing his finger tips to pieces with his windmill lead guitar action, (which many emulate).  He played up a storm.

I'm a fan now!  These guys must have been a mind blowing force in their youth because even in their latter years it is obvious, The Who stand alone and must be the greatest rock'nroll band of all time.

Big call, but I have seen The Rolling Stones and U2 and many others.  Those guys don't rock like The Who and neither did The Beatles.  Don't get me wrong I am a fan of them all, but they are all mellower rock acts by comparison.

The large video backdrop showed images of the full band in their prime, mod imagery/symbolism, scenes from Quadrophenia during Love Reign Over me.  It was nostalgic, it reflected to a degree where the hard edge originated.

Super, super, superlative performance.  If you get a chance to witness them, do it.  Get the Grammy Award winning doco, (available on DVD), covering their career first, be prepared to be blown away!
