I have been looking forward to hearing The Black Keys for some time. Firstly they play my type of music and second they have created some of the most memorable rock music of the last 10 years. They did not not disappoint at the BB&T Center in Sunrise. They ran through a tightly staged show with a lean and discreet backing band, heavy on songs from their current album Fever [a pretty good album], but they also did enough of their classics like 'Howlin you for you" to keep fans happy. I liked the few covers they played, in particular the wonderful Edwyn Collins song  'A Girl LIke You' ; one of my all time favorites with its mean fuzzed up guitar riff. I also think that the musicianship of the 2 members of the band, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney is up to the apparently high standard of their song writing. Dan can really shred but Patrick is an absolute standout on drums driving the music along with fiendish but not over indulgent energy. This is modern music at its best and The Black Keys deserve their success for all the hard work they have put in.

Only 2 knocks on the show - Dan is a little short on charisma, so the audience have to find their own way into the show without an instant rapport with the band's leader and...[not to be blamed on The Black Keys], the organization of the show by BB&T was absolutely terrible - only 2 credit card readers for thousands of people with floor seats and access. It took 40 minutes to get into the show by which time the opening act, St Vincent was playing her last 2 songs...a great pity for which I cannot forgive BB&T as St Vincent is great in her own right, with one of the best albums of the year and a growing reputation.[Note to St Vincent - not your fault the crowd was so lame for your performance - most were outside in a line!]. Social media complaints to BB&T produced no response. Go very early for any show here with ticketing by means of the credit card used!
