Hello Folks,
Thoughts on the show.
The break after the first band seemed like an eternity, so when they took the stage expectations were high. With the balcony closed and the dance floor less than half full I was a little concerned for the audience energy.
But, they finally made it out. I believe they did’em all from the first album, Carry Me On, Spanish Moon, Good Time, Living In A Dream, etc. Man, I love this album and throughout the years it’s been my breakfast album, so I expected a lot from Bramhall & Sexton.
Live, the boys seemed a little slow vocally and a missed chord or two by Charlie lead me to believe the music was far too loose and resting on their laurels. I wonder what else was happening in the wings that night. By the way, where is Tommy Shannon? But, as the night flowed on the groove of the music really solidified and all was forgiven. Trading off on the vocals and dual leads was quite entertaining and the geetars were cock, I mean super cool.
A healthy dose of guitar gear was ushered on and off the backs of the boys almost every other song. Doyle’s Strats (one worn and a red sparkle with painted headstock), a 3 pickup Custom Gibson SG, and Sexton’s 2 custom reissue Zemaitis', with Newmark playing a vintage looking P-bass. By the way, where is Tommy Shannon?
With ½ of Double Trouble, Chris Layton on drums and the bass player Mark Newmark who might of doubled as the bus driver too. By the way, where is Tommy Shannon? Layton kept it together on a kit a bit bigger than a jazz set.
An encore consisting of two songs and ending with Too Many Ways To Fall seemed ironic, with their shaky first half a dozen songs, but the band nailed it. A soulful performance overall. I hope the boys don’t fall and we’ll wait for the new album (and DVD).
I ‘d see’em again.
