I went and saw Dr. John at the O2 arena. It was billed as an authentic New Orleans experience. The O2 arena is a lot like Disneyworld, but without the slaves. There was no beer there! In order to get some you had to go into a restaurant. Also it was the cheapest night on the town I think I've ever had. I got there using my rail card, and the music was free.

As far as the music is concerned, Dr.John was SO authentic. I could feel his soul just bursting out of his music. Of course his most recognizable song was "Right Place, Wrong Time", which he played twice (my aunt said) but I missed the first one. But he had songs about "save our wetlands" which he somehow made groovy and iminently enjoyable. I was singing it on the way home. Saave our wetlands! And he had a political song about Barack, which was like, "it's time for a change" or something. It was good, i want to get his album.

Basically, he's still got it. He's like an old hoodoo man, with his trinkets and skulls and a staff which doubled as a cane. When he got up during some numbers, to dance, you weren't sure if he was going to fall over or not cause he was so doddering. But I say this with love. Cause he was awesome.

You GO Dr. John. And YOU go, see him, if you can. And go to the O2 dome. It was cool.

Great review, Charlie
I almost feel was there.
Funny that you are in the UK and see a quintessential US blues star.
