Tommy James and the Shondelles/ Peter Noone

Of the 2 bands on this show, Tommy James and the Shondelles was unexpected. The band had a much heavier rock and roll sound than their 1960's roots led you to expect. The band was loud and rocking. The only thing is that not all their hits lent themselves to this heavier sound. Crystal Blue Persuasion sounded a lot different to the original although I thought the blues edge worked well. The audience , having been been warmed up by Peter Noone remained in their seats until near the end when a never ending ending version of Mony Mony enticed a few people to stand up. The band was good but I felt that most of the audience wanted a lighter more pop performance. Younger folks probably appreciated the show but the basis of the music is decades old.
Tommy James was led off by the opening act of Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. He was pure 1960's with short but but well known songs including a few covers played by a lightweight band. Peter Noone is a very entertaining character; almost a comedian with a great audience rapport. His hits are so well known that he had the audience on their feet singing along particularly on his signature song ; 'Henry the Eighth'.
A reasonably enjoyable evening, but the 2 bands really appeal to different audiences.
