Yes are a progressive rock band who started in the 1960's and have continued with various changes until the present. The current tour has 3 long standing band members, Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White joined by Oliver Wakeman , son of Rick who was part of the band in the past and Benoit David who replaced Jon Anderson when illness prevented him from continuing the tour.
I was unfamiliar with much of Yes's material and found their approach too long winded and cerebral to get me excited and engaged for much of the show. None the less the musicianship and sound were of the highest order and they appeared to have many fans who clearly loved their music.
Their harmonies are outstanding ; in fact it was like listening to an acappella group backed by a rock band. I did find it difficult to relate to their symphonic approach and the length of each song, but as the show went on began to warm to the soaring sound.
The audience which was quietly polite at the start became very enthusiastic and the band played a great encore featuring 2 of Yes's biggest hits, Owner of a Lonely Heart and Roundabout.
Yes did an outstanding job of reproducing these songs to the point that I thought them among the best live versions of hits that I have ever heard- clearly a testament to their musicianship.
A difficult show to rate,[ I gave it 3 stars but band fans would give it 5], but if you like to be a little challenged by your rock music, worth seeing.
