One quarter of the Who playing Tommy; Roger Daltrey obviously has a love for Tommy and it appeared to energize his show. A couple of years ago he delivered a sub par effort at the Hard Rock, excused at the time by a cold. In fact he had a major throat problem. The good news is that Roger is over that and his Tommy show can be highly recommended.

Roger told the crowd that Tommy is a f------- opera, and invited the unusually enthusiastic audience to take a seat. The music holds up well and the band including the Who's guiding genius's brother, Simon Townsend, played it with gusto accompanied by some pop graphics. A few songs dragged a little but are redeemed by the classic numbers, including Pinball Wizard and I'm Free.

Tommy took about an hour and then Roger got to some classic Who songs and some more obscure things. Roger really put himself into this performance and the band responded. His tribute to Johnny Cash was a nice touch but didn't work; otherwise everything else was excellent. CSI has made the Who into one of the major bands of the era and these songs stand up well- complex and involving.

The second half took another hour ; so a long and enjoyable evening's entertainment.

See it while Roger still wants to do it.
