John Kay and Steppenwolf
eventHard Rock Live, Hollywood, Florida
June 26, 2011
by PeterP
Went to this show not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The problem is that Steppenwolf does not have many hits, but their best songs are iconic and they have a loyal biker following. Steppenwolf is, however, an excellent blues band and John Kay can still sing well and exudes a cool vibe.
I really enjoyed their version of 'Hoochie Cochie Man'. Their encore choice of 'The Pusher' instead of Born to be Wild was interesting and John Kay appears to be a thoughtful intellectual character. If only they had a few more really good songs the show could be 5 star.
