Eric Clapton put on a heavily blues inspired show at the Hard Rock. You had to like the blues in order to be fully engaged by the first part of the show and the fans were largely polite rather than enthusiastic initally. The first part of the show was really for hard core blues or guitar enthusiasts. The overhead screen lingered lovingly on Eric's technique but this did not increase the fans' early involvement. While Eric Clapton is one of those legends you have to cross off your list of artists you have seen, his playing did not fully engage me until he appeared fully involved in a sublime version of Little Wing. His lack of interaction with the crowd did not help.
However, no sooner did he play the opening notes of Layla than the show took off and that song alone was almost worth the ticket price. With the fans finally fully involved the band played a great encore of Got My Mojo Working.
A 'must see' artist but with a set list too heavy on blues at this show for some fans.
